http://colombiareports.com/pics/2011/06/legs.jpg Three-hundered women in the town of Barbacoas near the Pacific coast have vowed to withold sex from their husbands (http://www.prensa-latina.cu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=300249&Itemid=1) until the connecting road into their village has been paved.
Dubbed the "strike of crossed legs," the women are witholding sex from their husbands to persuade them to pressure local authorites to properly maintain the main road out of their village which stretches some 35 miles before reaching the nearest town.
The road has claimed the lives of more than a dozen medical patients who have died on the road before reaching medical care. It currently takes about 12 to 14 hours to reach the nearest hospital.
The women intend to expand their strike this Saturday with a protest aimed at recruiting more wives into their movement.
Colombia (http://colombiareports.com/) has a recent history of sex-strikes. In 1997, Colombia's military chief Manuel Bonnet called for a sex-strike among the wives of paramilitaries, guerillas, and druglords to promote peace. In 2006, wives and girlfriends of gang members in the town of Pereira in central Colombia purportedly withheld sex from gangsters who failed to turn in their arms after their city suffered a period of violence that left 480 people dead.
Sex-strikes have classical roots as well; a sex-strike famously was the subject of Aristophanes' "Lysistrata," (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysistrata) a comedic tale of one woman's quest to end the Peloponessian War by denying men sexual favors until the war is ended.
Many husbands of the women on strike said that they would prefer that their wives engage in a hunger strike instead.

DID I SAY OUCH !!!! ???????? :wtf1: :protest:

FROM COLOMBIA REPORTS
Authorities bow to southwest Colombia sex strike (http://colombiareports.com/colombia-news-lite/news/18065-colombian-authorities-bow-to-sex-strike.html)

http://colombiareports.com/pics/2011/08/barbacoas.jpg
Authorities in the southwest of Colombia (http://colombiareports.com/) have agreed to honor the demands of a sex strike last week organized by 300 women in a small town in southern Colombia.
For 38 days, 300 women in the town of Barbacoas have participated in a "strike of crossed legs" (http://colombiareports.com/colombia-news-lite/news/17200-colombian-women-withhold-sex-for-road-improvements.html) denying their husbands sexual favors until a road that connects their town to the rest of Colombia is paved. The men of Barbacoa also joined the women in protest by launching a hunger strike (http://colombiareports.com/colombia-news-lite/news/17232-men-join-women-in-narino-sex-strike.html).
The road is in such bad condition that it currently takes 12 to 14 hours for residents to reach the nearest hospital, which has resulted in many unnecessary deaths.
Now it appears that Colombian authorities have yielded to the women's effort. In a meeting that included the director of major projects of the National Roads Institute, the acting governor of Nariņo and a representative from the Army, it was decided that paving would start on the road on October 11.
According to Diego Fernando Enriquez, a family judge and promoter of the protest, the army would begin working immediately to set up depots for equipment and supplies.
"Something very important for us is that the project was reported in the national budget and that the project includes construction of the whole way," said Enriquez.
At first, $22.5 million will be made available to pave the section between the towns of Junin and Buenavista. The stretch from there to Barbacoas is in the most critical need of repair.
Despite the promises of the government, the women announced that the sex strike would continue until October 11 when construction actually begins. "The Barbacoan community is aware that there have always been many promises made here that have never been kept," said the group in a message.
For two decades people of the town of Barbacoa have been expected the government to pave the 35 miles between their town and the next. So far less than 10 miles have been paved.

A HAPPY ENDING!!

THE ROAD IS GETTING PAVED AND THE HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN IS BACK OPEN FOR BUSINESS
