07/2011 - excuses to go to DR

Hey i just got laid off so i decided to use some savings and hit up the DR for a week or so. Since i cant use the im going on business angle, what are other good excuses for traveling solo to DR. Im not a big enough golfer for that work, and the same goes for fishing and i have never scuba dived.

I do like sports gambling and cigars, so maybe ill just say im going for the beach, gambling and cigars? Do you think ill get weird looks or is that a pretty legit excuse?

How big of a reputation for sex does DR have? When i told people i was going to thailand i got a lot of jokes and is always akward to downplay that and keep a front. do you get that from DR? or do people lump it in with the other carribean countries like lets say i picked st. maarten instead i know people would be thinking awesome beach first.

Unless you need an excuse to tell the wifey or girlfriend, no excuses necessary! You just go and have a good time. There's no need to explain yourself. If they should ask, just say you needed to get away and just chose the DR. If they give you funny looks, oh well. Don't entertain them, just play like you don't know what they're talking about and just that you're there to get some R&R. Just my opinion.

This last trip I told everyone Florida. The only reason is how often I've been there the last year or so. Last time my boss decided to tell everyone and joke shit it. Even in front of my employees. This tends to get awkward because many of them would never dream of traveling out of the country let alone how expensive they think it is. Personally I find it cheaper and definitely more fun than a NA vacation.

I've been on at least two vacations a year for the last 11 years and have gone with others maybe three times. I prefer to vacation alone. When people ask me I say "Because I can do whatever I want on don't get dragged into doing some lame tourist crap I don't want to do". I also go to the movies alone. Are you single? Makes it even better to travel alone.

I'm single and ALL of my trips have been solo. I guess I started going before its reputation got exaggerated, but you seem to be worrying too much about nothing. Would you feel this way about going to Jamaica? Everyone seems to know about Hedonism, but they don't assume that's why everyone is going.

I thought I was gonna have to cancel a trip because all the vacation slots were taken. My supervisor manipulated it so I could go. I think he liked the morale I brought to my particular team when I came back.

I go to DR because the flight is cheap, the hotel is cheap, food & booze is cheap, there are beautiful beaches every 10minutes, and it is always about 90degrees.

What do you do when you are there? i lay on the beach and drink presidentes, and at night i go to the bars/restaurants and unwind.

Thats pretty much the truth no excuse or need to lie! you just leave out the orgies with cheap hookers part

There ya go! I sulked for a while after I left my job. Snapped out of it and headed to the D.R.. The trip wasn't long enough, so I added about two more weeks. Ended up staying a month. Funk over. Wasn't caring about ex coworkers, friends, family, The Hawks (basketball season, lol), chicas back home, nothing. Just remembered to go online and pay bills, and that was it!

im not too upset, to be honest i thought i would have been one of the first casualties but somehow stuck around for a while. i got really good experience and good company on my resume. Plus i got a decent severance with along of my savings i wont be affected for a while. Well depends on how bad i get raped on these airfares to POP lol.

I think the reasoning (not excuse) I gave friends/family/co-workers for going to DR first couple times was that I got a ridiculously good deal and it's cheaper to stay there than it is to stay at any beach destination in the US.

No one ever batted an eye when I said I was going to the DR (except for one of my Dominican friends, but he goes home for reasons other than 'visiting family' anyway. LOL).

I don't think any excuse is necessary to go spend some time decompressing on the beach on a Caribbean island.

You might need to get a little more creative in your reasoning when you're on your third trip later this year, though. :lol:

Not hoping, but it wasn't out of the blue and i got a severance package so i cant complain too much. The reason for an excuse is probably because i got embarrassed somewhat when i went to thailand and heard the usually bs back and i wasnt prepared. I think its all in mind, anyways i havve no worries now :biggrin:

theres people that email me and its a possibility i would have to call them back and they would know by the extension of what country i was in. Also im pretty white so i get burned pretty easily...so when i come back from any warm locale its pretty obvious. I guess i can tell friends i went to florida, but what if i have a boarding pass laying around or some shit like that.

Anyways the DR has no bad connotation. Most people just talk about the carribean, & a couple about haiti. It was a lot different then when i came back from asia.

I am single, but my wingman has a live in girlfriend. (Well, they have kids and have lived together for years, so in many states it would be common law marriage. Definitely in Canada.) We took our first trip a year ago. He told his gf that he was going to visit me in Toronto. In anticipation of this trip, I always called his house from my magic jack. When we traveled to the DR, we carried the magic jack with us, and his girlfriend was able to call us on the magic jack number. She had no way of knowing that we were really in DR.

Its been a year since my wing has returned to DR. Now he is about to take another trip in a week with me. This trip, he has grown a pair. He told his girlfriend that he is going with me to DR.

You have not truly LIVED, until you board a plane for the DR (or wherever), and the only people who know about it, are your immediate family and you can even limit that to ONE person . Not even customers or coworkers, its "transparent" to them , you are just "away from the office".
Just forward your calls to someone else, & check on your emails online. No need for anyone to know where you are. esp today with all the devices at our disposal.

If you do that's great. But a persons personal circumstances can make that kind of disclosure difficult. I have 2 kids, one just turning 13 and the other 9. If I was sharing my escapades with friends, co-workers and the the like I would be concerned about my kids getting knowledge of this, another good reason to keep things to myself.

Orl, I use to be you for years. I lived the married with kids life. I did not monger Internationally at all. It is very hard to justify a trip away, where she can not call you. The best advice is to find good local mongering spots. I am not sure where you are in Florida, but there is something everywhere. Every phone book in the US has listing for escort services. Try the backpage. Or if you really need a quick fix, find the streetwalker scene. The key is to do what is necessary to satisfy yourself, so you are willing to stay with the mother of your child.

You are right he is being short sighted. Well I tried for a few minutes to upload pics and it said file not permitted which is the usual BS I always get with this new site which is why I gave up trying. Anyway was trying to post a pic of trail cam of a bear I did not try to hunt since it appeared on my deer cameras and if I knew this 400-500 pounder was around I would have got a bear license and got a rug. Anyway no big sucess this year I got a small 10 point, most of my friends had to shoot does to fill there licenses since the weather was terrible way to windy, then full moon and too warm then finally cold weather this last weekend.

You upload pics, but you don't finish the process, that's why you get the file not permitted message.

So here's the process one last time:

1. On any screen, Click on "File uploads" on the top bar(thats the message box with the search box to the right) and a new window opens.

2. If you don't have an album, create one. You have to have an album to upload pics.

3. Click on your new album( or any album)

4. Click on "upload pictures" and a new window opens

5. Select "add files" at the top right corner- a new box opens(the upload box)

6. At the top of that box, do nothing if you are going to add a picture from your computer. If you are going to get a picture from the internet, select "Website"

7. click "select files" at the bottom of the upload box.

8. Once you select your file(or files), click on "upload files"

9. You'll see the file upload progress, then the file you uploaded will appear in the previous window at the bottom, under "attachments"

(If you only go this far, you will get the file not permitted message) You're not done yet.

10. Underneath the file you uploaded that is now in the Attachment window, you see a box that says "select all" at bottom left - check that. A check will appear there, and in the box next to the pic(s) you uploaded.

11. At the bottom far right, click on the "Done" button.

12. That will take you to the album page.

13. click on the "save changes" button (far left middle)

14. Your new pics will show up in your album.

15. Click on the pic you want, then when it opens, cut and paste the BB code like you always do.

Since you and Stu are slow at these things, read the instructions out loud, one at a time, and don't advance until you've done the previous instruction. LOL

Do that a couple of times, and you'll be uploading as easily as you used to do. .

I feel weird telling people im going solo on vacation, let alone if they know it is a known mongering destination. Thats all. I feel akward when i say, im going to be gone for a week in the DR.
