Hey, im looking for a ticket with somewhat flexible days. I would like to leave august 16-september 1 and for 6-10 days.

I am really flexible on what airport to fly out off. CVG, DAY, CHM, IND, lexington and lousiville those would be ideal, but i could make an excuse to go to pitt or chicago and fly out of there easily. I could do the new york airport but it would have to be 200 dollars cheaper then the other ones. Also i could fly into STI as that is a little cheaper but to me it would have to be 160 dollars cheaper since i would take a taki and not a bus. (i dont care how cheap a bus is, i would have way to much valuables on me when i touched down :))

Ive done a great deal of research and the cheapest for me is American Airlines pitt to pop for a little over 600 but it involves a 10 hour layover in MIA.

Ive used expedia, priceline, kayak, hotwire, matrix.isoftware, airfare watchdog, bing, orbitz, AA, delta, jetblue.

I figured id throw this thread out there and see if someone has an awesome deal they found or know off. My price point on where i would run to get the credit card quickly is 500 and less.

thanks

I just tried searching something up on Jetblue for NY (I have no idea where you live with all the cities and airport codes you put in there :rofl: ill assume your from anywhere and everywhere) but for JFK to pop and STI I noticed that its really not expensive to get to DR, $144. Thats pretty much the low all year for them so far, but you got alot of people coming back from their summer vacations with their families and stuff. Those return flights are double and close to triple the amount of your flight coming in to POP or STI.

I wish you luck in finding a deal during this summer maddness. I personally stay away from summer travel just because I know once the kids get out of school EVERYONNEEEE is going on vacation and prices seem to skyrocket until kids go back to school.

You could get 600 off a 144 and a 324 but thats alot in comparison to a 400-500 rt at the middle or end of the september into the next month. You might have to catch a special sale offer for this to get lower.

You're probably not likely to do much better than the $600-ish AA flight you already found. There isn't even a flight out of Newark for all of August for under $534.

thats what im getting too. I figured with being so flexible with airports and somewhat with dates i could find something decent. To be 600 bucks is a cross atlantic flight not a carribean flight :(

Very difficult during this time. You have Labor Day weekend and also, kids returning home (in both directions) from summer vacation.

You've really got to plan in advance. I booked my next trip in October 3 months ago and scored tickets under $600. October is NOT peak travel time. Around $600 is the best I can do, and I have to accept that. I have to fly Chicago to Miami to POP. I was looking into another trip before x-mas or after New Years, but the tickets are already $800+.

i had found a rate of 610 for dtw to pop, total time wheels up dtw to wheels down pop was like 6.5 hours. return trip 7 hours. that rate was good for one day and now is 729. that was for a january trip, but... checked other times and it was pretty much across the board

the problem now with flying into sti, the afternoon fiight AA always had is no longer there. now, to get that flytime , arriving at 2:50pm, you have to fly into pop. flying into sti arriving at 9:30pm really isnt an option as it takes away one day of vacation time as taking a cab over the mountain at night isnt necessarily on my bucket list

i have time to wait that special out again, kind of was asleeep at the switch and didnt jump on it. sent and email to my wingman and next morning when we were chatting, checked the price and it was up to 729.

sucks, having to spend that, but.... cant drive, too far to walk...; and dont want to spend 20 hours in an airport or doing dumb things like taking a cab over the mountain at night

hopefully, things will change

the reduced flights does shows there is less travel to the DR these days. also, one might consider keeping an eye on the flight as i am sure the remaining flights will fill faster

I agree with you on that, especially when the rates are down and it looks like some glitch in the system :rofl: not now though.

I got September 23 booked into october 3 which is right before columbus day. I got that for less than 400, I think I paid 350 thanks to a members 15% discount on JetBlue post posted by a member. I swear the other code he has or anyone who did AYCJ last year has isn't limited to 1 time use, its probably 1 use per person. That one is 30% and still hasnt expired but id hate to use a members discount and he not be able to use it so I would never ask anyone who hasnt already used it to share it but i'd be very curious to find out if that works for everyone.

Hypothetically speaking, i forgot when it actually expires. But thats a good deal.

well if it helps anyone i found in mid august 2 one ways that are pretty cheap.

ORD (chicago) to POP = 280.... Jet blue

then the return flight

SDQ (santo domingo) to ORD = 222...spirit

so it would be 500 all fees, taxes, etc. This would be awesome cause i get to sosua and not have to wait for a taxi or a bus ride to delay my much anticipated trip. Also at the end of the trip i can either rush it to SDQ by taxi if im in love with sosua, or i can bus it cheaply and stay a night in the capital.

Only 2 negatives i thought of that you guys might help out with.

First, with 2 one ways im still okay with customs since i have a ticket showing im going to leave, correct?
Second, If there was a hurricane or tropical storm around santo domingo i could be screwed. COuld i just call my airline and say ill be nice and i can take a flight out of pop or santiago. Or should i pay 20 bucks for travel insurance and use that as piece of mind?

Thanks

If this is your first time flying spirit, I hope you factored in luggage both ways, they will stop you, and the charges are significantly higher at the airport compared to paying online. I am not sure if it would be worth paying the $9 club charges, if you are only going to fly Spirit this one time, but they are usually the cheapest airlines on the places I need to get to.

As far as Spirit is concerned I never had to use the insurance, but as far as canceling and rescheduling the flight, if you got a really good price on the ticket, its cheaper just buying a new ticket then to reschedule the ticket.
