Hey guys,

I got a letter in the mail about a promotion. From July 12 through Oct 12, 2005, you can earn triple AAdvantage miles for double dip stays. To double dip, just provide your Hilton HHonors and AAdvantage account #'s when making reservations and at check-in. If you are not already an HHonors member, you can enroll at www.hiltonfamily.com

www.hiltoncaribbean.com/santodomingo

To receive triple AAdvantage miles. Request Plan Code QL when making reservations.

I emailed this place if they are chica-friendly or not. They have not replied yet.

I just realized that this hotel has the largest casino in Santo Domingo.

Has anyone been to this casino before? Do they have a lot of girls to choose from?

Also, does anyone know if this hotel is chica-friendly?

Just a reminder, from now until Nov. 14th, you only need 25,000 miles plus a tax of around $70 to $100 for a round trip from NYC to the DR.
AA said that only 25,000 miles is required because business is slow during this time.

AA usually requires 30,000 miles plus a tax of around $80 to $100.

I think i saw some direct flights to SDQ on AA for about $550 around FEB/MARCH. Give me a direct flight to POP for $550 from Logan i would book a week for both months. Also search the Vacation outlet travel agents for a charter. Unfortunately most charters out of BOS are going to Punta Cana.

I just completed a price check on Spirit from PVD-SDQ on Nov24-30. Those just happen to be the dates that I will be there and wanted to know the differance in airfare.

Spirit $567.60 Buissness class PVD-FLL-SDQ
Spirit $367.60 Coach

I am paying $540 on AA PVD-ORD-SJU-POP in Coach. Its an 11 trip to get there. Also I am returning into BOS so that means I have an 1 1/2 wait to catch a bus back home again.

From MA and RI its a royal pain in the ass to get to the DR. Its also very expensive. This is part of the reason I have been bitching and complaining lately. I was on the phone with Jayman just yesterday morning telling him how I have been looseing intrest in going down there. I may have to look into this myself. The question remains, how much of a pain in the ass is it to get from POP to SDQ? I know its cheap, but is it worth $200? Remember, if I had a 3pm flight out of SDQ and I was at BB's. I would probably have to leave there at 8 am to catch my 3pm flight.

Jet Blue just announced 8 RT flights daily from Boston to JFK. Every evening there is a Jet Blue flight to Santiago that leaves around 9:40pm and arrives after 2:00 a.m. There are hotels in Santiago, there's a bus to Sosua every hour beginning at 6 am or you can take a taxi to Sosua for about $50.
Getting to paradise from Boston just got a lot easier!

Now that I am on a roll looking at different airlines, I just looked at JetBlue. They have BOS-STI for $640 on the dates I want to be there. Lets keep in mind thier ungodly arrival and departure times. I could deal with arriveing at 3am, in fact that wouldn`t be too bad. But to leave at 3 am, OMG I'd never make it to the plane, Id still be out drinking.

Hmmm maybe a combo of different airlines and cities. OK, we can do a BOS-STI for $130 one way, thats on a Fri night. now to get home again.

$155 STI-BOS is a possible fare on Jetblue. Not too bad. Thats a Thursday morning flight.

$285 Round trip, priced out as 2 one way tickets. Not bad at all. Compared to the normal $500-$600 we normally pay, I might be able to suck it up for a trip or 2.

With a little playing around with one way tickets, airports, cities and airlines. I might be able to make a cheaper trip after all.

Good job sailor, One post made me look at a few different options that I didn`t think of before. With Jetblue now doing the BOS-JFK and Spirit doing SDQ I might be able to make the DR a viable option again. I'm real tired of paying $500-$600 airfares, 4 times a year.

I believe it was about a month ago AA eliminated all direct flights to POP.

How many times have you been to Sosua? If only once or twice then stick with Sosua. Make five or six Sosua trips then maybe try Santo Domingo or Boca Chica.

that Continental is no longer flying daily flights from Newark to POP? I went online looking to possibly change my upcoming flight and found that although I was originally scheduled to leave on Nov. 14th, my itinerary had been changed to the 12th. I wasn't aware of the change as I had not received an e-mail notice.

When I contacted them to find out what was going on I was told that the change was due to the fact that they no longer fly daily from Newark to POP. Anybody else aware of this?

It's not a big problem for me; I was able to change my departure to the 10th and extend my return to Dec. 1st and add an additional week to my trip, but I was wondering if CO's schedule change is true as it will have to be considered when planning future trips and, preferring to travel on Tuesdays, it looks like I'll have to start looking at a different departure day.

Yeah, they did the same thing to me, but on my return flight - moved it from Wednesday, 11/29 to Friday, 12/1. Problem was, they only moved one leg, so I wound up having reservations from San Juan to Seattle two days before I went from Puerto Plata to San Juan!!! I wound up cancelling the whole flight with them, and found an American fare for $30 cheaper.

I know that sometimes they'll cancel a flight and re-schedule, but my assumption has been because there wasn't enough people flying that particular flight. However, this is the first time I've heard that they simply won't be running daily routes, especially considering that it is the holiday season.

syracuse (to STI) in late january for $339.90 all in (4:30am arrival time) with jetblue ( but need to stay in a cabaņa or expensive taxi or bus to boca chica AND a 6:00am return departure AND a 3.5 hour drive to/from home each way)

syracuse (to SDQ, my preferance) for just under $450 thru either atlanta (i really like this airport and only a 58 minute layover!) or jfk (but a 16+ hour layover!!!) on delta

syracuse (to SDQ) for $475 thru ewr (13 hour layover!!!)

home to SDQ on continental for under $700 (but save $150 in travel and parking cost but over 12 hour layover!!!)

what would you do?

My cousin teaches at a NYC public school and they have winter recess Feb. 19-23. I looked up flights for the 17th-25th as those dates include the Sat/Sun before and after that work week. Do you know how much they all want? $800. Even Jet Blue. The week after, the costs are back to normal ($3-350). This is just obscene. I mean, jack it up $100, fine, but to more than double the price is robbery. I'll walk to the DR before i give them $800 to fly me there. I'm just really disgusted by this.

Isn't this Presidents Day that weekend? I heard that that this weekend is the busyest.

DR1 TODAY
Attention Canadian travelers
Whether you are resident in the United States or will transit the United States on your way to Canada or other destinations, it is important that you and your family members are aware of new requirements for Canadian travelers under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
As of January 23, 2007, the United States' Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) will require Canadian citizens to present one of the following documents when entering or transiting the United States by air:
- A valid Canadian passport;
- A NEXUS Air card when used at a NEXUS Air kiosk.
Note that as of that date, Canadians entering or transiting the United States by air without the required documentation are likely to be referred for secondary screening, where US Customs and Border Protection officers will evaluate any evidence of citizenship and identity. As a result, Canadians without the required documentation may be prevented from boarding their flights. Delays and unexpected financial expenses may also occur.
The Government of Canada continues to recommend that Canadians carry a valid Canadian passport for all visits to the United States. Please note that Canadians are not required to have Machine Readable Passports to enter the United States, even if the passport was issued abroad. Canada is not a participant in the US Visa Waiver Program.

how come there seems to be no more direct flights to POP from JFK??

I'm thinking about hitting up Sosua again... or maybe should I try hitting up SD?

this issue is like beating a dead horse...Santiago & Santo Domingo are the main points of intere$t for airlines to DR at this time. dont expect them to open up multi schedules to POP because its a monger friendly route.

Hi Jimmy, thank you so much for a quick response. How does the customs works in SJU? Do we have to do customs in SJU and in DR? Where do we do the customs for DR?

Since we are a group of 10 - 12 guys from Chicago, the savings we are looking at is around $1250 total!!!

SJU will be you entry and exit for US customs. In the DR customs are in the arriving and departing airports.

A cab for POP airport to Sosua will be about @20 US

Isn't there some confusion here?

SJU is San Juan in Puerto Rico.

How is he going to take a cab to Sosúa?

Reminds me of Dominican Billy's story of visiting a Dominican family in the DR when he was still living in Canada. They asked him whether he drove all the way from Toronto.

The only place from where you can get to the DR by road is Haīti.

Yes. He speaks your language. I don't.

It still doesn't explain your question about "getting to the DR by road".

by the time you factor in cab fares it is a wash if you are traveling alone. let the time wheels up ord to wheels down DR be the deciding factor. some of those flights dont get in til the middle of the night, effectively blowing a day of vacation time
