Are there any places to play Hold'em poker in Sosua? In between sessions of Poke-her, I like to play NL holdem. Any ideas what the blinds are? $1/2?

thanks.

Sorry about all the questions, but I still have not learned how to search effectively. I search for poker, i get all kinds of threads, many not specific to DR. Any search tips?

Ocean World Casino (Puerto Plata) used to have tournaments twice a week. Have no idea what the blinds were.

i think playa chiquita casino has the best games to play...
on fridays they have a 3000peso buy in and there are usually two games going,,
the rest of the week they have nightly 1000peso buy in games...

i think they are run quite legit...the money and payouts is open,,,the house takes 20%.

I was taught that when someone says this it's time to walk the other way especially when it comes to gambling. lol

There is a 100 / 200 peso game every night in the Sosua Bay casino. It starts around 11:00 PM. I have played once, and the game is on the level. The money is kept in a lock box by a local expat that runs the game. The only thing the house does is deal and take a rake - I believe it was 50 pesos per hand. The casino goves free drinks to the players. The night I played, there were 5 expats 3 tourists, and 2 locals. I made 6000 pesos or so and headed into After One. The 5 expats were grinding out a living, the tourists were tourists, and the 2 locals were playing with scared money trying to double up quick. The game was OK.

Didn't there used to be a friendly game on Sundays at Passions? Whatever happened to that did it die a slow death?

I don't know anything about cards but my father always claimed he earned enough from playing to get married and set up house.

Saw a movie last night on a Dominican channel called "Shade" (2003). Apparently went straight to DVD despite having a cast of big names, Stallone, Melanie Griffith and Jamie Foxx in supporting roles and Gabriel Byrne, Thandie Newton and Stuart Townsend playing the main roles with lots of other well-known supporting actors. I thought it above average so I don't know why it bombed, but the reason I mention it here is apparently all the card tricks were "live" and performed by top card-sharps so might be of interest to our ISOC mechanics. Anyone ever see it?

As of the 1st few wks in October:
1) Poker game at Sosua Bay is dead: went a couple of nights and the expat that used to organize it is nowhere to be found (though noone was playing any poker, the pitboss said that he'd be willing to start up a game if I could get enough people).

2) Playa chiquita: Daily 1000 peso tourney (w/rebuys for I think the 1st 2 levels), and Fridays is the 3000 buy-in tourney with rebuys for the 1st hour. The night I played we had 3 full tables which is a nice little pay-off if you come in the money (top four spots). They also play cash game afterwards with min buy-in of 2000 pesos.

3) Casino on malecon in PP close to Crystals (can't remember the name): they run a cash game variation of NLTHE+omaha (start with 3 hole cards). I believe the buy-in was 2000 pesos.

Best bet is prob Playa chiquita as Armando runs a pretty legit game over there.

Oh shit, I meant as of 1st few weeks of September!! Daang, why is it I always seem to be borderline retarded/brain-dead after a trip to the Su! (seriously, my co-workers are always asking why I look so tired every time I get back from a 'relaxing' vacay in DR...ummm, I'm guessin' that clubbin' til 4am and bangin chicas until the break of dawn for 11 straight days may have something to do with it, haha)

And Trey, I'm sure you've already guessed, but once I hooked up with Snookie 2, my poker nights in Sosua essentially came to a screeeeeching halt! Dayum, that chic was bangin'! :corky:

DONT. I played at the casino. A bit shady.

i rarely worry about being cheated by players. In games like NLH their edge isnt enough to make it profitable for them.

I do pay attention to the dealers taking rake. They sometimes take too much rake due to not knowing the rules because they are not dedicated poker dealers. Also pay attention when they make change sometimes they just plain and simply arent good at math. All that is unintentional
