Vice president Rafael Alburquerque helped celebrate the Army's 162nd anniversary with the inauguration the Military Emergency Unit (UME), located on the 25th kilometer of the Duarte highway. Ironically enough the medical center was quickly put to use as an officer who had been standing guard for a long period began to feel woozy almost fainted. The UME also has a paintball field, a department for female military officers and an office for military leaders. The UME will be used during emergency situations caused by natural disasters and the paintball field will be used as a practice facility to help train in military tactics. The celebrations took place on National Military Day. Juan Antonio Campusano Lopez, head of the UME, explained that there had been no state investment in the project, and that other armed forces institutions would be able to utilize the UME facilities.
