The president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic, Lisandro Macarulla was chosen the new president of the National Business Council (Conep). Macarulla will hold the post for a two-year period and will be sworn in on 17 January. He replaces Elena Viyella de Paliza who has served since 2004. During the meeting in which Macarulla was chosen, Francisco Garcia, Ligia Bonetti de Valiente and Oliviero Espaillat were chosen as the Council's vice-presidents, while Maribel Gasso was chosen as secretary and Manuel Estrella was chosen as vice-secretary.
