The National Business Council has criticized the known outcome of the first work session of the National Judicial Council (CNM). Manuel Diez Cabral, president of CONEP, criticized the CNM's hasty and non-transparent adoption of the Regulations for the Application of the Fundamental Law of the National Judicial Council, that will be used to choose judges for the Supreme Court of Justice, the Supreme Electoral Court and the Constitutional Court.

As reported in acento.com.do, Diez warned that the task ahead for the National Judicial Council is of interest to all Dominicans. "Given the importance of this process for our institutions, our authorities are obliged to assume in full transparency and respect for the legal framework, ensuring the participation of all Dominicans who will be affected or benefited," he said. "It is regrettable that one of the most important bodies that brings together the three branches of government acted without fulfilling the legal obligation to publish the draft regulations and subject to public consultation," he said.

CONEP also said it was unacceptable to leave the selection process and evaluation of the judges of the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court and the Superior Electoral Court to the discretion of the members of the National Judicial Council.

The business entity deplored this "slow start" of the work functions of the National Judicial Council and appealed to common sense, in order to correct these errors and to ensure a transparent, participatory and democratic process that strengthens institutions of the Dominican Republic.
