BB will pick you up from the airport if you request it. They will take care of the rest once you ask for one.

Oh ok, I didn't realize they stopped doing STI pick ups. If you check out some threads on the board, you will find members who have posted numbers of drivers who will go anywhere on the island.

your best option is get a taxi or take the bus and have them drop you off in sosuer at rockies:wink:

and if you feel the need for more expensive point and click fuglies take a taxi from there........just make sure they know where bb's is located.......my first and last time there was in 2005 and i spent more time with the stupid taxi driver asking and reasking for directions:icontd:

oh btw ; congrats 14 months to break your cherry and do a post :corky:

you will spend more than what you are saving, just fly in directly, less hassle less wasted time, more time spending your pesos:corky:

Are there Taxis available at the airport? Is airport pickup service available?
We can arrange to have to have you picked up by our local taxi service. Just email us your flight schedule and we will make the arrangements for you and bill it to your room. The cost is US$45 one-way – less per person – if we are picking up more guests. Airport taxis are also available on arrival at Puerto Plata. We do not offer pick up from Santiago or Santo Domingo. Taxis are available at both airports. The price from Santiago is about US$90 and US$200 from Santo Domingo. From Santo Domingo you can also travel by Caribe Tours Bus (6am to 6pm departures). The price is about US$8. You will also have taxi fares from the airport to the bus station and from the bus station to Blackbeards.

I also think you need to make arrangements with BB's about checking in that late. If you arrive at STI at 9:30 at night, I am guessing by the time you clear customs, and find and negotiate with a random cab driver, you will not get to BB's till about midnight, there will be basically no girls there, and probably only the security guard and nobody at the front desk. You will pay for one night for basically nothing.

It depends on how many people. If you are by yourself, you would be better off flying into POP.

If you are with several people, renting a car might not be a bad idea, with the cheap insurance and getting good coverage through your credit card. Gas will be expensive, but if split several ways won't be bad, and will also give you options of leaving bb's and going to Passions or anywhere else. It depensd on how many days, but I think on my last trip we went to SDQ and the car split 4 ways was about $80 a piece. Combine that we all saved about $250 each by not flying to POP so it was about $170 net. Our last trip was Thursday morning to monday morning.

You should be warned, that you need to do some homework on renting cars in the DR.

The bus is the most cost effective route, but you will need to spend at least 1 night in STI, not sure what time your flight back is.

I would NOT recommend doing this drive, if it is your first time driving in the DR! The driving there is bad enough, let alone driving through the mountains at night!!

People have told me that the insurance through your credit card is not valid in the Dominican Republic. I would call your credit card company and ask before you rely on that aspect.

I agree with TNT72. If this is your first trip here I would not rent a car and drive from STI to Black Beards at night. Take a taxi. If you can speak some Spanish you can probably hire one for $70 - $75.

This is one of the worst and most confusing bits of advice to a newbie ever posted. I guess this poster has been away from the DR so long he has forgotten the basic geography.

Or he doesn't wish to give any assistance. I know that when I go somewhere, I know how to get from the airport to where I am going before I buy the plane ticket.

so you would rather a newbie go with a dominican taxi with ten other people:rofl:

or better yet hitch hike out to bb's and hope he doesn't get robbed, raped, beaten even before the chicas get to him:wink:

I am planning a trip to BBs and the difference in flight prices is well over $300 (more like $350) to fly in and out of Santiago as opposed to POP (although I would land mid-day.) I realize there is more time and hassle, but at a certain price point, it probably becomes worth it.

Does anyone have any RECENT info on how much a taxi would be each way from the Santiago airport to BBs? Also, about how long does it take?

Thanks.

The trip takes 2 hours. A taxi to Sousa cost $80, so I would assume that you could get one to Puerto Plata for $100. You could always take the Caribe Tour bus (they will stop at the entrance to costabar, where metro only stops at their bus station). Bus is only 150 pesos.
