Two short Hurricane Party stories:

On my 50th Birthday, returning from 8 nights in Aruba our plane's weather radar went out en route to PHL and we set down in San Juan. We were given $200 spending money (all our bags were stuck in customs quarrantine at the airport), taxi vouchers, hotel vouchers at the Wyndham El San Juan and meal vouchers for breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. We partied at the terrace bar overlooking Old San Juan and everybody got laid. It wasn't even raining a little there and we enjoyed a perfectly clear, moonlit and starry night on UAL's tab.

A couple guys leaving SDQ a day earlier than the rest of us got their flight washed out during a hurricane and returned to the hotel with a minivan full of Dominicanas (with US visas) who were either returning from seeing their families or going to spend time with their novios/ esposos in the States. The "Kool-Aid Room" turned into the "Orgy Room" that night. The next day they got to their respective destinations...well fucked.

You ask me those are the best time to goooo. Then you got to wait until after xmas and new years is over and its on again til the summer. Fuck a hurricane, hope its sunny on the day you fly out and worst case in DR is you get alot of rain, hopefully you'll be indoors with your chicas by then.

A hurricane definitely wouldnt make me want to cancel my trip, reschedule maybe but cancel is a strong word.

puerto plata has never been hit by a hurricane.

tropical storms, yes, but very rarely (something like twice in the last 40 years iirc).

at worst you'd be looking at a few days of heavy rain.

That is true TNT. But Freddy Freddy has been more active recently. I noticed he has been giving a lot of thanks, and he finally made his first post.

Having been a lurker before, at first I was tentative to post because I was concerned that what I said in my initial posts might be ridiculed by the more long term members.

But, after those first few posts I felt confident about posting.

To Freddy Freddy, I say thanks for your first post and please post some more.

I'm noticing a trend with some newbies on here in that they post questions and then receive some responses--some of which are sarcastic and some that are helpful, but they don't return to participate in their own thread or at the very least send thanks to those that respond in a helpful manner. Is it just me that thinks that you should give a damn about your own thread if you want others to?

I remember after the Tornado in Springfield ,MA. We were sent out there too replace the poles that were snapped like toothpicks, and put up new phone lines for people out of service.
The one thing I remebered was that the 3 days after the tornado were bright and sunny,, not a cloud in the sky. Kind of like after a really bad snow storm, it is usaully sunny the next day.
I'm not sure if it is the same after a hurricane ( maybe someone a little smarter than me can answer that one.

But if i knew it was only a one day thing , i would have no problem partying during the storm and then enjoying the fine weather afterwards.
However,, being a beach and sun god like I am,,,,, If I knew it was going to be shitty for 85% of my trip , I would definately cancel and reschedule, because I would go out of my fuckin mind not being able to go to the beach every day.
So I guess I would be considered a Sun and Beach Monger !!

the days after a Hurricane are beautiful...........
it's just a matter of how much destruction as to whether or not you can enjoy yourself after the storm.........

the last place you want to be after a Hurricane is being stuck on a Caribbean island with no water, food and electricity.........
it's all survival mode.....it turns into a physical working vacation....been der, done dat

I remember after the brutal hurricane Wilma hit the Yucatan peninsula in 2005. Tourists in Cancun were stuck there trying to survive on their own until their planes could come in to take them back to their countries.

There was this Canadian couple there to celebrate their homeymoon. The girl had to sell her engagement ring (worth 1G) to buy water and food to survive until their plane arrived.

I was there 3 months after the hurricane. Didn't go to Cancun but went to the island of Cozumel and it was literally flattened.

But in Mexico they sure know how to take of advantage of anything to make a sale. I was in Playa del Carmen and some of the shops on 5th avenue still had 'hurricane Wilma 50% off sale' signs .

Vdogger, good point. I live in S. FL., In 04 & 05 we had 4 hurricanes ( cat 1s & 2s). We had no elec. for 3 days, 1 day,7 days, & 2 days.It was no fun.No a/c no refridge,no stores open, no traffic lights,no liquor sales!
On the other hand, with the less developed infra-structure of the DR, maybe they can handle the post hurricane problems better than FL. However, if you do go, you will have some great stories to tell. Good luck to all in the DR this week

Hurricane Irene marks 1st big US threat in years

MIAMI (AP) — Emergency officials from Florida to the Carolinas were closely watching Irene Tuesday as the first hurricane to seriously threaten the U.S. in three years churned over energizing tropical waters. The storm has already cut a destructive path through the Caribbean.

Forecasters say the hurricane could grow to a monstrous Category 4 storm with winds of more than 131 mph before it's predicted to come ashore this weekend on the U.S. mainland. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami expected Irene to reach Category 3 strength on Tuesday, said spokesman Dennis Feltgen.

Ya Mon. You get my biggups from the realnegril folks? I'm a little camera/ internet shy so I avoided the stage/ dance floor and stayed on the balcony and ate like a pig all night. Chris was in rare form. He has more fun at his own parties than anybody else there.

Needlass to say mi gyal was a definite attraction there. The band played her the Happy Birthday song and she had the time of her life. Earlier in the day we were walking around the circle checking shit out and some dread was watching her instead of where he was going and SPLATT!!! tripped and fell into the gutter. The whole f'ing town busted out laughing at him. We having a great hurricane weekend.

Went to The Jungle later. Very few tourists and lots and lots of Hungry Hungry Hippos looking for a big payday there. Glad I brought my sand.

Met Rahn. I hope we get to hang out in Sto Dgo some time. I'ma go back to SeaStar when Chris is sober. I'll be going there early. Fun night. Good people. :iconTU:

Ha!

She's a Joisey Goil. Watching her work a crowd is a thing of beauty. She can cut a guy off at the knees and make him feel good about it. I let her work the crowd and do my thing. She always saves the last dance for me. Her and the local gyals made instant friends. She doesn't have a pretentious bone in her body.

Ya Samsara was a learning experience. Noy a HQ for a mongering trip. Neither is Xtabi really but it's a much nicer spot with a better staff. I was gonna stay at BCC but they wanted $90 for A/C & TV versus $60 for a regular room.

Xtabi not only has both with ocean view for $59, they have a special going until December...4 nights for the price of three. I got the superior room with A/C & TV for 4 nights= $197 (all taxes included). They also have safes IN THE ROOM so I can get my passport out when it's time to go without waiting for some manager to wake up.
