In a flurry of Presidential decrees, the expected reshuffling of the bureaucracy trickles in. Diario Libre reports that by Decree 494-11, President Leonel Fernandez appointed Francisco Dominguez Brito as his Minister of Labor, replacing Max Puig, who resigned to run for office. Dominguez is a former senator for Santiago, Prosecutor General, and a pre-candidate to the Presidency for the ruling PLD.

In article 2 of the decree, Fernandez promoted Environment Deputy Minister Ernesto Reyna to the top post of Minister of Environment. He replaces former Vice President Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal, who, according to the decree, had resigned his post. Fernandez Mirabal was not moved to any new position in the Fernandez administration.

In the meantime, Enrique Martinez was named executive director of the National Sugar Board (CEA) in substitution of Juan Francisco Matos, who was sent to head the Dominican Sugar Institute (Inazucar), replacing Faustino Jimenez. Until yesterday, Martinez had been the administrator of the National Lottery, but his replacement was not revealed. Prior to that post he had been at the CEA.

Also, Pedro Pena Rubio is the new governor of the province of Barahona, in substitution of Rafael Maria Mendoza, and Domingo Silfa Martinez was appointed Deputy Minister of Tourism.

Dr. Rolando Baez was appointed as director of the Jose Maria Cabral y Baez Regional University Hospital in Santiago.

All told, there were ten decrees that contained appointments in the diplomatic service and in the second tier of some of the ministries and government institutions.
