The Ministry of Public Health has announced that paychecks would be delayed for one week for the accounting department to allow the ministry's personnel to collect the remaining 5% pay increase that corresponds to the third and last increment that was agreed upon with the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) in July 2010. According to most of the country's newspapers, including Listin Diario, this latest pay increase will bring the total wage increase to 30%.
Deputy Minister Roberto Peguero Albuez said that the delay was necessary in order to make adjustments in the administrative, financial, Human Resources and Payroll areas of the ministry.
The agreement reached in July 2010 put an end to several years of strife between the doctors and other medical personnel and the Ministry of Public Health. The agreement involved a 15% immediate increase in August 2010, another 10% in January 2011 and a final 5% increase this month.
