At the Cibao International Airport in Santiago, all airline operations were suspended as a result of Hurricane Irene, including flights yesterday morning and evening. American Airlines, Jet Blue, Delta and American Eagle suspended a total of 16 flights.
The Operations Department at Las Americas International Airport (AILA) suspended 50 flights, both arrivals and departures. Jet Blue Airlines, perhaps the major carrier between the United States and the Dominican Republic, suspended 12 flights from Las Americas, and the same thing happened with Delta Airlines, which cancelled one arrival and departure. Although American Airlines was able to dispatch Flight 1752 to New York, it cancelled the rest of its operations.
