The voracious fire that consumed two of the four warehouses of the Tabacalera Fuente in Villa Gonzalez could not be controlled by the forty-year old fire trucks that the fire department had to use. The trucks, which date back to 1971, could not handle the blaze in Palmar Abajo, according to a report in El Nuevo Diario, and units from private companies and other towns had to be called in. In all, some 18 pieces of firefighting equipment came from Santiago, Villa Bisono (Navarrete) and private companies.
