In the Dominican Republic, if you are a paying client of EdeSur and you are one day late, your power service will be cut off. There seem to be exceptions, though. Superintendent of Insurance Euclides Gutierrez Felix still has power service despite owing EdeSur RD$3,205,511.46. Nuria Piera has expressed indignation at the privilege and made it known on her TV shows.

Gutierrez is not happy about Piera picking on him and sent a legal notice to the journalist that he would prosecute her and any of her advertisers in a defamation suit. Piera says Gutierrez could have sued her in court, but has not done so because he knows the truth would come forth, in a press conference yesterday to announce she would legally fight back. He has preferred to intimidate her advertisers.

Meanwhile, yesterday, EdeSur announced it has hired the legal firm of Consultores Legales to take on the collection case against Gutierrez, who had reached an agreement to pay RD$150,000 a month on the money owed, but has not met the agreement.

As reported, Gutierrez Felix's consumption ranges from 3,000 to 10,000 kHw a month. El Dia newspaper says that Gutierrez is regularly paying for his current consumption, but not for the past debt.

Euclides Gutierrez Felix had disputed the bill, saying that by law he should have been accredited hours of free service for blackouts. His residence is located in a C area, where he receives 16 hours of service a day.
