EdeSur has notified Superintendent of Insurance Euclides Gutierrez that he has to pay his arrears for electricity services. As reported in Hoy, he was given five days to make the payments on his debt of over RD$3 million. Gutierrez appeared on TV yesterday to explain that he has not paid because he has a legal case ongoing against EdeSur for lengthy blackouts that have made it necessary for him to spend thousands on alternative power. He alleges that the Electricity Law calls for the power distribution companies to restore 150% of the blackouts to consumers, re Art. 93.
Nevertheless, one expert interviewed on the Carmen Imbert Brugal program, nevertheless, explained this article is not valid because the ruling for its application was never passed, describing this as a case of unfair privilege and political clout, now out in the open thanks to Nuria Piera.
