The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) announced it will be installing 65 planned wi-fi hot spots for free internet service in 65 communities in 31 provinces nationwide. The communities that are first to benefit are La Cuesta (San Jose de las Matas), Janico and Sabana Iglesia in Santiago de los Caballeros. Sabana Iglesia has a large population living in New York City.
Indotel president David Perez Taveras said that President Leonel Fernandez has shown a high level of personal interest in the Wi Fi Network for Public Spaces Project.
