Conjoined twins Maria Teresa and Teresa Maria will travel to the Richmond, Virginia Children's Hospital for a final test prior to possible separation surgery, as reported in Listin Diario. The case is described as complex because they share a liver and small intestine.

The girls, who are 16 months old, were born joined at the abdomen. As reported, they are able to walk around the house, are good eaters, say mama, papa and the names of their three brothers. They are playful, although they often need to be supervised because they fight, bite and scratch each other's face.

Listin Diario reports that on Wednesday they will travel with their mother and a representative of the Office of the First Lady that has assisted the babies and family since their birth at the Luis Eduardo Aybar Public Hospital on 8 April 2010.

This is their second diagnostic trip. The mother said they would stay in the United States for about three months. "Now we are going to do another study to see if they can separate them without a liver transplant, and if they can then operate," she said.
