There are dry days ahead for the National District. The repair of two 67-inch pipes at the Valdesia Dam will force the interruption of water service in the National District neighborhoods south of John F. Kennedy Avenue for at least three days. An unofficial source at the Water and Sewer Corporation of Santo Domingo (CAASD) said yesterday that the work will take about two weeks but with some optimism, they hope to offer a partial service from Valdesia and boost it with the diversion of the water from the Haina-Manoguayabo and Duey and Isa Mana systems, as well as using water tankers. The source added that in addition the draining operation involved "isolating the pipes to be repaired from the river," which is a complicated job.

In the meantime, yesterday the CAASD drained the pipelines that were going to be worked on, in order to begin the work at the Valdesia intake. The debris carried by the floodwaters from Hurricane Irene down the Nizao River broke the pipes, according to the CAASD.
