President Leonel Fernandez visited Santiago yesterday to attend the official opening of the offices of SkyMax Dominicana, a low-cost telecom company known for its prepaid calling cards, with operations in Santo Domingo, La Vega and Puerto Plata.
President Fernandez also participated in the formal inaugural of the Seguros Universal insurance company, part of the Popular Group.
He also took part in the launch of the Centro de Excelencia en Tecnologia para la Informacion, a joint Indian and Dominican training center. The Centro de Innovacion y Capacitacion Profesional (Capex) that trains staff at the Victor Espaillat Mera Industrial Zone operates at the same location.
Ambassador of India, Deepak Bhojwani spoke at the event about the importance of collaborating in projects for training hi-tech personnel. Miguel Lama, a key executive of the center, said the agreement for the operation of the center was signed when President Fernandez visited India earlier this year.
