Euclides withdraws summons

PLD veteran and current Superintendent of Insurance, Euclides Gutierrez Felix, has withdrawn the summons that he filed against Nuria Piera and her advertisers. It is believed that Gutierrez Felix succumbed to the enormous pressure applied by his fellow party members, from Leonel Fernandez downwards. Party secretary general Reinaldo Pared Perez confirmed that the Political Committee member agreed to withdraw the summons issued against advertisers on Nuria's program, at the insistence of the committee. Pared Perez told reporters from El Caribe that during a break in the committee meeting, President Leonel Fernandez, presidential candidate Danilo Medina and campaign manager Francisco Javier Garcia spoke to Gutierrez Felix and told him that the public debate generated by his attempts to intimidate the journalist were having a negative effect on the presidential campaign. Pared Perez said: "It was agreed that comrade Euclides would desist from the summons against the advertisers."
