Members of the National Police killed an alleged contract killer in La Otra Banda in Santiago yesterday, during what was described as an "exchange of gunfire" between members of a gang that was led by the deceased and the Police. According to El Caribe, 22-year old Robinson Cabrera Urena, "Pion", was wanted by the authorities in connection with the murders of union organizers Kelvin Antonio Rodriguez last Sunday and Hector de Jesus Duran on 17 August. Regional Police spokesman Antonio Calvo Perez told reporters that three other gang members were wanted for questioning.

Meanwhile, in a weed-filled lot in Santo Domingo's Brisas del Este, the Police shot and killed Ivan de la Cruz, 24, who was wanted in connection with the murder of an engineer, Kelvin Bienvenido Bonilla Paulino, in Los Frailes. The murder took place in Las Americas, in Santo Domingo East. A Police spokesman told El Nuevo Diario reporters that De la Cruz died while being treated for several gunshot wounds at the Dario Contreras Hospital. The Police also reported that Jose Luis Javier Hernandez (Mello), 22, was wounded in the hail of bullets. He was arrested when his mother took him to the hospital after he escaped from the scene of the shooting. The Police reported that they recovered a Browning 9mm used by the deceased to attack the patrol. The spokesman told reporters that Bonilla Paulino died from gunshots near the #30 Santa Malta Street in Los Frailes, and that both Ivan and "el Mello" were being sought for their connection with the case.
