A French national named in the press as Thierry Andres Barde, 48, killed a man he says attempted to rob him on Wednesday. Barde had withdrawn RD$400,000 from the bank. When they had parked at a business at the intersection of Manuel de Jesus Troncoso and Victor Garrido Puello streets in Piantini, a red pick-up stopped with one woman and three men. The man now dead got out of the vehicle and demanded the cash. Barde suspects that he had been followed from the bank.

As reported in El Dia, he tried to fire his gun at Barde but it was stuck, and Barde took out his own gun and shot five times, killing the assailant. Barde was accompanied by Benbrahin Alau and their wives Yanelis Hernandez and Francine Roine. The two women and Barde were arrested for questioning.

The other suspect made a run for it in a red-colored vehicle. The killing caused a major traffic jam in the area.

A spokesman for the Police said that the assailant's gun was being analyzed by the Police to see if it had been used in other crimes.
