Canada nudged the DR 73-72 in their match in the 10-country FIBA Americas Olympic basketball qualification tournament on Thursday in Argentina.
Canada's win shouldn't come as huge surprise given the history between the two countries. Canada is now 7-1 all time against the Dominican Republic, including a win two years ago in what amounted to a sudden-death game for a spot in the 2010 world championships.
The Toronto Star celebrates the Canadian victory and points out that Charlie Villanueva, the ex-Raptor who is one of three NBA players on the Dominican roster, was invisible, going scoreless with only two three-point field goal attempts in just eight minutes of playing time.
