The Dominican Republic Men's National Basketball Team has won its latest two games at the FIBA Americas Tournament. The DR team was the first surprise in the Mar de Plata, Argentina London Olympics Qualifier when it defeated Brazil, 79-74 on Friday, playing in Group A. The DR men's basketball team had not had a win over Brazil in 16 years.

The DR was first in Group A, with wins over Cuba, Venezuela and Brazil and a loss to Canada.

To defeat Brazil, Coach Cal said that the formula was to play good defense, forcing the Brazilian team into 15 turnovers and uncharacteristic erratic shots.

As reported on the Coach Cal website, Calipari said his team had a few breakdowns because of its weak-side defense and game plan to limit the three-point shot, but he was proudest of his team's developing penchant for coming through in late-game situations. Brazil hung around throughout the fourth quarter until Francisco Garcia came up with a key strip and Horford followed with a game-clinching floater with 36.7 seconds to go.
