The Presidency has sent a budget adjustment to Congress for a RD$4.7 billion addition to the education sector, as reported in Hoy. Minister of the Presidency Cesar Pina Toribio said that RD$4.2 billion of the funds are being allocated to the Ministry of Education and RD$500 million to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology. The funds have been generated by the application of law 139-11 passed this year, and the placement of US$500 million in sovereign bonds. The Fernandez government has been under public pressure to increase funding for education.
