El Nuevo Diario reports that the Department of Migration has deported 85 foreign citizens from the Dominican Republic over the past 17 months, generally on charges of violating the immigration and drug laws, and some were wanted by their home countries' authorities. They include 25 Haitians, 14 Cubans, 6 Germans, 5 from the Netherlands, 4 Venezuelans, 2 Mexicans, 2 Italians, 2 Iranians and 2 Canadians. The was also one Turkish citizen, one Belgian, one Puerto Rican, one Romanian, one Russian, one Hungarian, one from Curacao, one from the Czech Republic, and one from Bolivia. Of this total, 13 were deported for drug law violations and the rest for violating the immigration laws. The latest deportee was Thierry Andre Eugene Barde who killed an alleged assailant during an attempted robbery after withdrawing cash from the bank. A subsequent investigation showed that Barde was wanted in France on drug trafficking charges, as reported in Listin Diario.
