The District Attorney for the National District, in coordination with the District Attorney of Azua and the Central Electoral Board (JCE), arrested several people yesterday who are said to be members of a network that forged Civil Registry documents (Vital Statistics), which contributed to the protection of drug traffickers and organized crime. According to Listin Diario, the former District Attorney of Azua, Jenny Guzman Brito, Luis Galvan and Yovanny Montano and employees of the civil registry office in Sabana Yegua were all arrested. Several others, including JCE employees, have been arrested.
JCE head Roberto Rosario, is currently in New York where he is working with a deputy prosecutor from Santo Domingo and the New York authorities to continue to find members of the criminal network of counterfeiters.
