In the first six months of this year 1,249 people died in violent incidents, 49 more than in the same period in 2010, reports El Dia. Most of the homicides involved guns. According to Police reports, the toll of violent deaths for January was 219, February 208, March 196, April 212, May 230 and June 184. The most common motives were domestic violence, armed robbery, police action, contract killings and drug trafficking.
The Police announced the start of a violence awareness campaign on TV this month.
