The Dominican Republic national basketball team lost to Puerto Rico (79-62) and to Argentina (84-58), its two strongest rivals in Group A, and thus will not grab one of the two Olympic Games qualifier posts in the FIBA tournament. The DR still has a chance to make it to the final Olympics qualifier in July 2012.

In the tournament, Brazil defeated Argentina (73-71) in a shock result. The DR had defeated Brazil earlier, in another surprise. The DR is in fourth place in the tournament, behind Brazil, Argentina and Puerto Rico.

Al Horford scored 16 points for the DR in the game against Puerto Rico.

Edgar Sosa, the team's 23-year old playmaker, is on his way back to Santo Domingo for surgery after suffering a broken leg in the game the DR won against Panama on Monday with only 37.9 seconds remaining, as reported in El Caribe.
