The judge of the 4th Civil and Commercial Court of the National District has banned Insurance Superintendent Euclides Gutierrez from sending out any more intimidating legal statements to companies that sponsor Nuria Piera's investigative journalism TV show 'Nuria en el 9'. Judge Maritza Capellan Araujo also ordered him to desist from actions of this nature against any journalist. In her ruling, the judge ordered the PLD politician to pay RD$10,000 for each day that he delays in complying with the judgment that establishes he needs to notify all the advertisers that had been contacted to tell them that they are not responsible for violations of several items of Law 6132 that regulates the press in the DR. Piera had submitted a recourse via her lawyers Luis Rivas and Laura Acosta calling for the government official to respect freedom of press and speech in the Dominican Republic.
On her TV program, Piera denounced Gutierrez for having an outstanding debt of more than three million pesos with Edesur, a power distribution company.
