A commission of state senators from New York has accepted an invitation from President Leonel Fernandez to attend a dinner in Santo Domingo this week. The legislators with seats in Albany, the state capital, will arrive in the Dominican Republic today and leave on 19 September. The delegation, which represents the Latin Caucus in the state government, includes two senators of Dominican extraction: Adriano Espaillat who represents Upper Manhattan and Jose Peralta from Brooklyn. The Latin Caucus is composed of six of the 62 members of the state senate.

While they are here, El Nuevo Diario says that they will be taking part in workshops, discussions and social activities, including both the dinner with President Fernandez and another with the United States ambassador in Santo Domingo Raul Yzaguirre at the embassy in the capital. The discussions will cover topics such as health, education, immigration, the environment, culture, and citizen safety among other things. One of the discussions will be held at the Be Live Hamaca Hotel in Boca Chica and will include the Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez, the rector of the Central University of the East, Jose Hazim Frappier, the president of the Dominican Medical Association, Senen Caba Plasencia, and Jeremy Eduards, vice-consul of the United States Consulate. Bienvenido Fajardo, the president of the Dominican Medical Association in New York and Dr. Ramon Tallaj, a Republican leader and a prominent doctor, will also be on the panel.
