The anti-crime measures ordered by President Leonel Fernandez on Saturday include a high-level commission headed by the Attorney General of the Republic, the chiefs of Police, and Army and the Director of the National Investigations Department (DNI). They announced a bid to strengthen the actions aimed at tackling crime. In the meeting, held in the Attorney General's offices, the head of Indotel, David Perez Taveras, the Army chief of staff, Pedro Antonio Caceres Chestero, the Chief of Police, Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, the head of the DNI, Ramon Aquino Garcia, and the Attorney General Radhames Jimenez Pena all took part.

Jimenez announced that through Indotel they would acquire equipment for blocking cell phone calls in the jails. He also commented that the processing deadline in criminal cases is very flexible and allows certain judges to take "super democratic" positions in terms of applying coercive measures, especially when it comes to preventive custody, when they are dealing with recidivists who seem to leave jail easily. He stated that that the objective of the measures was to comply fully with President Fernandez's orders.

In the meantime, the director of the DNI reported that, in coordination with Migration and the Foreign Ministry, they are sifting through the lists of foreigners, as part of an agreement with Interpol with the aim of creating better controls on these people. He told reporters that as a result of this work, dozens of records have been sorted through, checked out, and others deported after bringing to light their ties to criminal acts. The Chief of Police added that they have strengthened patrols on the streets and security measures in the main sectors of the Capital with the idea of preventing crime.
