President Leonel Fernandez met with Canadian Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) Diane Ablonczy at the Presidential Palace yesterday. The Presidency reports that they discussed trade related issues.
Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Morales Troncoso and Canadian Ambassador Todd Kuiack were also present at the meeting. Ablonczy is on a four-day visit to the country, the Presidency reported.
As reported by the Presidency, the high-ranking Canadian government minister highlighted that Canadian companies are leaders in investment and in tourism visitor numbers in the DR, around 800,000 a year. "One of every five tourists who visits the country is Canadian," said Ablonczy.
This is the first bilateral visit to the DR by a Canadian Minister. Minister Ablonczy will be in the DR from 12-16 September.
