The crisis in the Middle East continues high on President Leonel Fernandez's agenda. The President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas is expected in the Dominican Republic next week, Diario Libre reports. He will meet with President Leonel Fernandez who has offered to serve as a mediator in the Middle East conflict.
Diario Libre says that the two leaders will meet in New York next week during the 66th United Nations General Assembly and then Abbas will return to the DR with President Fernandez, according to a Diario Libre source.
In June 2011, President Leonel Fernandez visited the Palestinian National Authority. Last week, Fernandez headed a workshop during which he proposed the creation of a Latin American Alliance for the Peace in the Middle East.
