The state-owned power supply services, which have been under new management since August 2009 have improved their ranking in the Global Competitiveness Report, one of only five areas where the country showed progress in the 2010-2011 report just released this month by the World Economic Forum. Last year, in the infrastructure category, the quality of electricity supply was up 3 points from 132 in the 2009-2010 report to 129 in the 2010-2011 report.
"We are not satisfied, but this is just the start of a change, because many more investments and commitment with continuity of policies aimed at restoring and making distribution more efficient and for the electric market to operate in an organized manner, invest in new efficient generation and cheaper technology and continue investments in high quality transmission", said executive vice president Celso Marranzini.
He said that the perception of the World Economic Forum was consistent with that of the local World Bank representative Roby Senderowitsch who recognized the progress made in the electricity sector.
