The PRD is the political party with the largest number of followers in the Dominican Republic, according to the latest CID Gallup poll.
Of 1,217 citizens of voting age polled from 1 to 6 September, 46% identify with the PRD, 34 with the PLD and 3% with the PRSC. CID Gallup says that the PLD has suffered in the past two years because of criticisms of President Leonel Fernandez's performance and increases in the cost of living.
Nevertheless, the poll also shows that First Lady Margarita Cedeno is the highest ranking politician, with 65% favorable to 32% rejection rate, followed by Hipolito Mejia with 57% positive and 35% rejection, Santo Domingo Mayor Roberto Salcedo with 49% to 39% rejection, Danilo Medina with 46% to 44 rejection. The others are PRD president Miguel Vargas with 44-48%, President Leonel Fernandez 40-57%, La Altagracia senator Amable Aristy 33-53%, former Hipolito Mejia legal advisor Guido Gomez 26%-52%, Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Morales 22%-53, and PRD vice presidential candidate Luis Abinader 14%-14%.
