National Police chief Major General Jose Polanco Gomez has promised that the ancient musket that was stolen from the Columbus Lighthouse would be recovered. He confirmed the item was stolen last weekend. The historic relic is valued at around RD$4 million. As reported in Diario Libre, the musket was used by infantry battalions between the 15th and 17th centuries. It is a relic from the early days of the Spanish colonizers. Historians say it dates back to Columbus' first trip to the Americas in 1492. It was located in the Japan Room of the 48-room museum-monument that is located at Avenida Parque del Este, in eastern Santo Domingo.
