Critics have bestowed glowing reviews on Cecilia Garcia's opening performance as Maria Callas. She continues to star in Master Class this weekend at the Sala Ravelo of the National Theater. The award-winning actress and singer plays Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's Tony-winning Master Class (1995), which depicts the diva reminiscing about the triumphs and tragedies of her life and career.
"This is a drama with many ironies, where the audience will also have many laughs," said Garcia. The play is directed by Carlos Espinal. Also performing in key roles are Giovanny Cruz (the stagehand) and maestro Dante Cucurullo (the pianist).
Tickets are RD$500. The Theater box office is open Monday to Friday from 9:30am to 6:30pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 8:15pm. Tel 809 687-3191, ext 221.
It continues next weekend, 23-25 September. Friday and Saturday at 8:30pm, Sundays at 7pm. Book early because tickets are going fast.
