Basing itself on the Ten Year Education Plan, the National Education Council (CNE) approved the budget for education for the 2012 year reaching 4.09% of GDP, as established in the Ten Year Education Plan 2008-2018. The decision was approved by a simple majority during a session lasting for more than six hours. The CNE also reported that the institution is working on a process that will make salary increases possible for education sector workers.
Victor Sanchez, the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Planning, made the budgetary proposal for the Ministry for 2012, which amounted to RD$75,391,388,952.
According to Diario Libre, at the end of the session, the Minister of Education, Josefina Pimentel, thanked the members of the council for their contributions to the open and democratic debate, which they carried out in discussing the budget.
Another issue that was dealt with in the meeting was a report presented by the Ministry on the increase in private school tuition fees, and the start of work by the Commission for Reviewing Law 86-00.
