The Ministry of Labor, through the National Salary Commission, has ordered a 17% increase in the minimum wage for workers in the Free Zones, in two phases, which begin on 1 October 2011. The resolution 10-2011 of the Ministry of Labor, establishes that the first application of the wage increase should be applied with a first step of 10%, which will increase the minimum wage to RD$5,940. Also, according to Diario Libre, the agreement reached between management and the workers representatives says that the rest of the adjustment would be a 7% increase effective on 2 January 2012, which will put the minimum salary wage for the employees of the Free Zone at RD$6,320.
