In a meeting held yesterday, the National Judicial Council (CNM) approved the exclusion of two of the 285 candidates to the high courts, the order of selection of the magistrates for these courts and the celebration of public hearings for their evaluations. The two exceptions, whose names were not revealed, were removed from the list of aspiring candidates because they did not comply with the requirement of having 12 years in the practice of law, a source told the Diario Libre. One of them graduated in 2001 and the other in 2002.

The Council, which is chaired by President Fernandez, decided that the judges who will make up the Supreme Electoral Court will be elected first, then the members of the Constitutional Court, and lastly they will choose the magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice.

In the meantime, they decided that all the candidates' Curriculums would be published on 26 September, after a unanimous vote by the Judicial Council. After finishing the meeting, held behind closed doors in the Council Room in the Presidential Palace and lasting for nearly two hours, CNM spokesman and Presidency Minister Cesar Pina Toribio said that initially the public hearings will be held on 11 and 12 October at 5pm and on 15 October at 10am for the candidates for the Supreme Electoral Court. He said that later they would announce the dates for the public hearings for the candidates for the other two courts.
