The executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE), Celso Marranzini has responded to criticism of the prolonged blackouts affecting Santo Domingo East. Marranzini said that if the CDEEE provided continuous electricity to the Alma Rosa II sector during the day, it would be necessary to "punish" the sector during the night, which he said that he was not going to do. Yesterday's statements from Marranzini were made in response to complaints by industrialist Nassin Alemany who said that the industries in the sector were almost unable to work because of the extended periods of blackouts during the daytime working hours.
Marranzini countered that where Alemany has his industry is a "C" circuit, with transmission losses of more than 30% registered by Ede-Este. He said that most of the power cuts were caused by work on the power lines that are in bad condition and must be changed.
According to Alemany, the blackouts in the area last from 8:20am until 6:20pm, three days a week, and there are shorter blackouts on the other days. Marranzini said that the repair and renovation work would continue until November.
