The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) reports that a low-pressure trough over the country is causing scattered thunderstorms and wind gusts in the northeast, northwest, north and southeast, along the border and in the central Cibao Valley. During the day, the low- pressure system will continue to cause high humidity levels and rain showers. Onamet reported that Tropical Storm Maria was moving away from the island and that it was expected to become a hurricane within the next day. As a result of the distancing, the waves along the north coast are returning to normal and the small craft warnings and restrictions have been lifted.
