President Leonel Fernandez traveled to New York on Sunday to participate in the 66th United Nations General Assembly to promote his campaign against international financial speculation. He will return to Santo Domingo on Friday, 23 September.

He was received by Dominican Ambassador to the UN, Virgilio Alcantara on his arrival in NY.

He traveled with First Lady Margarita Cedeno, Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, and ministers Cesar Pina Toribio, Luis Manuel Bonetti, Temistocles Montas and his press secretary Rafael Nunez. Also part of the group was United Nations System Resident Coordinator Valerie Juliand, deputy director of the National Investigations Bureau (DNI) Victor Crispin, executive vice president of the National Council for Climate Change Omar Ramirez, and special Presidential assistant Danilo Perez.

Businessmen Manuel Estrella, Juan Vicini and Felix Garcia, and lawyer Ramon Antonio (Negro) Veras are also traveling with the President, as reported in El Caribe. He left on an AA flight from Las Americas at 4:45pm.

He is scheduled to present his proposal during the assembly on Wednesday, as reported in Diario Libre. Fernandez has campaigned for measures to reduce the volatility and financial speculation of commodity prices. Diario Libre reports that this is President Fernandez's seventh trip so far this year. His previous trips were to India, Guatemala, Brazil, the US, Haiti, Europe and the Middle East.

11am - meeting at New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).
Afternoon - meeting with William L. Pollard of Medgar Evers College
5:30pm - meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban ki-moon at the UN headquarters.
6:30pm - reception and South-South News (www.southsouthnews.com/Pages/Default.aspx (http://www.southsouthnews.com/Pages/Default.aspx))
7pm - Participation in the South-South Awards at the Waldorf Astoria. This year the theme of the awards is the use of Information and Communication Technologies.

Tue, 20 September

10am - meeting with President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno.
2pm - Open Government Partnership with the participation of United States President Barack Obama.
5pm - visit to Library CUNY Dominican Studies in the North Academic Center, City College.

Wed, 21 Sept

9am - inauguration of the 66th United Nations General Assembly
1:15pm - official lunch hosted by the UN Secretary General to the Heads of State and delegations.
3pm - bilateral meeting with President of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Ngema at the UN headquarters.
7pm reception hosted by President of the United States, Barack Obama and the First Lady.

Thu, 22 Sept

7:30am - breakfast meeting "financial speculation in food and oil Future Markets: A New International Consensus On Price Stability" in Riverview Room, Hotel Millennium UN Plaza Hotel, One United Nations Plaza.
9:30am - press conference on the subject of speculation in the pressroom of the UN.
3:45pm - President Fernandez will speak at the 66th UN General Assembly of the United Nations
5:30pm - Tastes of the World Reception.
