Lieutenant Colonel Cesar Augusto Ubri Lebron was shot dead in the Santo Domingi neighborhood of Las Praderas last night. He was 48 years old and had worked for the National Drug Control Department for 18 years, as reported in Listin Diario. The newspaper highlighted that he had worked closely with DNCD chief Major General Rolando Rosado Mateo. He had worked as personal assistant to all the DNCD presidents.

"He was the one who knew all about this. He was a star," said DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron, who described him as a brain within the DNCD.

At the time of the murder he was accompanied by an unnamed woman who was unhurt. The murder took place in front of the Catholic church in Las Praderas.

The motive of the murder is not known. The National Drugs Control Department (DNCD) warned on Monday that the murderers of Lieutenant Colonel Cesar Augusto Ubri, personal assistant to Major General Rolando Rosado, "will pay dearly for this affront," while indicating that if the crime is a message, it would not deter them from their efforts against drug trafficking, said Lebron speaking on behalf of anti-drug chief, Major General Rolando Rosado.

"Everything indicates that we are facing some sort of message, from the way the murderers shot Ubri in both arms," he said, in a statement issued by the DNCD.

The Police said that the killing occurred around 9:40pm and the shots were fired from a SUV parked in the area. The officer's vehicle, a Toyota Highlander 2006 was stolen by the assailants after committing the murder, but his gun was not stolen.
