President Leonel Fernandez and President Michel Martelly of Haiti met in New York yesterday, during their participation in the 66th United Nations General Assembly. Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said that they discussed the university the Dominican government is building in Haiti, which should be ready in January 2012. Morales said it would be the first project inaugurated after the earthquake and should serve to encourage the international community to continue cooperation to Haiti. Morales Troncoso said the government would deliver two buses for transporting Haitian students, as well as 15,000 books that were procured with a US university. He said the university could train the Haitians who will work at the port that the Inter-American Development Bank is planning to fund with an investment of US$250 million. Presidential Minister Cesar Pina Toribio, Administrative Minister Luis Manuel Bonetti, Dominican ambassador to the United Nations Virgilio Alcantara and lawyer Ramon Antonio Veras attended the bilateral meeting. Martelly advisors Jean Edner, Michel Oliver Martelly, Gregory Mapaid-Paul, Damian Merlo, Patrick Rouzier and Stanley Lucas represented Haiti.
