The mayor of Philadelphia has posted a US$25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and capture of the two suspects in the murder of the Dominican-American family in their bodega in North Philadelphia last week. Mayor Michael A. Nutter made the announcement last Friday. The robbers killed Porfirio Nunez, his wife and sister. Nutter said that more than 20 detectives from the Homicide Squad were looking for the two men. The alleged murderers were traveling in a Ford Econoline van that was seen moving around the area.

According to one of the survivors, shortly before closing, the bodega received a call asking if there were surveillance cameras in the store. The young girl gave the phone to her father who told the caller he was not interested in purchasing such a system. Minutes later the robbery occurred, ending three lives and injuring one other person. The mayor called the crime an "atrocity" and urged people to come forward with information.
