The government of Venezuela has announced it will increase oil supplies to the Dominican Republic from 30,000 to 50,000 barrels of oil a day, under the PetroCaribe Agreement that dates back to 2005. The agreement allows for long-term credit purchases with extended grace periods.
Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso made the announcement at the end of a meeting between President Leonel Fernandez and the Foreign Minister of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro, in New York for the 66th General Assembly of the United Nations. Morales also announced that Fernandez was invited to speak at a meeting to formalize the Latin American Petrocaribe Commission on 3 December in Venezuela.
