Minister of Education Josefina Pimentel says she is focused on improving her ministry's financial, quality and institutional performance. As well as these three central priorities, she said she intends to optimize the handling of the resources, decentralize the functioning of the public schools and improve the local statistics on teaching quality and student performance.
She told Hoy reporter Leonora Ramirez that no school principal was authorized to establish charges through the sale of uniforms, or for letters of good conduct or contributions towards the repair of the building. She said this was only allowed if a Parents Association reaches an agreement with the school director to contribute some resources. However, she said that what is prohibited is the compulsory charge for those items listed above, adding that this was an age-old problem that they have been trying to eradicate for years.
